Marie Claire Up Late

To the people who say “the magazine industry is dying,” please step aside, because Marie Claire just hosted Brisbane’s trendiest night of the year.

The wonderful team behind the fashion magazine ventured up to the sunshine state for an evening of exclusive discounts, must-have giveaways and, above all, the celebration of fashion. Elite shopping district James St transformed into an open runway as everyone dressed in their trendiest get-up… however, nobody’s outfit was complete without a Marie Claire gift bag slung over their arm. The first freebie of the night, the goodie bags contained chocolate bars, fortune cookies, discount codes and best of all, their 2018 April issue featuring Reese Witherspoon.

The second freebie was not so much a giveaway as open platters of bites to eat. I’m sure these snaps can speak for me when I say the platters were hella decadent.

These tiny cakes weren’t the only gorgeous miniatures up for grabs, as The Daily Edited held their own pop-up stall, handing out red and pink heart tags to be personally monogrammed on the spot. (In case you’re wondering, I chose red!) As some women joined the line for TDE winding around the room, others visited MAC cosmetics for glowing makeovers, or asked for skincare advice from the experts at Endota Spa.

It wasn’t only girls enjoying the festivities, however, as Zak stayed glued by my side as I trekked up and down James St. Boyfriend of the year? 100%. Not only did he hold my sparkling water as I perused racks of designer clothes, he also looked extra stylish himself in a vintage Nike polo and RM boots. He was rewarded for his boyfriend dedication with some sugary fairy floss from Camilla’s hippie tent, where you could stick a bindi on your forehead or have your hands tattooed with henna.

As if the night couldn’t get any better, we stumbled across a runway show happening right in the middle of Calexico Boutique, showcasing playful and colourful pieces from their latest collection.

After all of this magic and fun, the highlight for me was meeting the lovely Nicky Briger, Marie Claireeditor. Surrounded by beautiful clothes, we chatted about the digital media landscape and our mutual love of fashion journalism, which ultimately led to her hinting at the chance of an internship in their Sydney office. I was one very ecstatic journalism student… fingers crossed!

What’s better than delicious Christmas cookies? HOME-MADE Christmas cookies. Yes, that’s right- we baked something that tastes and looks good (‘we’ being my boyfriend and I). We decided to impress his family by whipping up a batch of festive sweets for their Christmas party, and these photographs are the result!

Polaroid Album

Every photograph posted on this blog is the phenomenal result of a Canon 550d camera. Recently, the clarity and blur on my lens had been out of whack, so I’ve turned to my canary yellow Instax mini polaroid to fulfil all of my shooting desires. There’s something a little bit sacred and heartwarming about polaroids: every shot is purposefully selected based on the aesthetics of the environment, the golden feeling in the moment or the significance of the event.

Christmas tree party!

CHRISTMAS HAS ARRIVED!! And with it comes carols, happy Christmassy movies, food food food, overall good spirits and SO MUCH MORE. I’m not going to pretend I haven’t already been watching National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation or humming Run Run Rudolph under my breath… because I definitely have.

For the Love of Florence

IMG_3581

It didn’t take long to find joy in the city of flowers.

My first impression was through my hostel’s window, as the sun set over the city’s rooftops like butter melting across the sky. That’s how each hour felt in the Italian town, as though a radiant warmth was seeping further through my body with every passing moment.  Every place you visit leaves you with something, whether it’s a cuisine you’ve never tasted or a simple life lesson, but Florence was different… Florence introduced me to a new emotion.

Rome: Top 10

img_3417(Much love to this Italian chef who posed for my photograph while baking a pizza base!)

‘Wheennn the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie, that’s amore!’ This song played in the back of my mind for the duration of our stay in Rome, the Eternal City. The city earned it’s nickname from the ancient Romans, who believed that no matter what happened in the world, no matter how many empires came and collapsed, Rome would stand the length of time. To this day, the ancient Roman belief has not withered, as the capital of Italy remains a city of both warmth and energy. There were so many things to do, monuments to see, food to devour and experiences to live that we were constantly on-the-go.

Read on for my ten favourite experiences in the Eternal City.

Prague: 5 Fun Facts

Czech Republic is the kind of country you read about in fairy tales. From enjoying the sunset over Prague Castle to eating traditional spreads on a river cruise along the Vltava, Prague proved itself to be one of my favourite cities in Europe. Miluji tě, Czech Republic!
