How else to begin the year than by drinking yourself silly? By doing it with a wicked view, of course.
Brisbane has finally caught up with Melbourne’s raging rooftop culture, with new bars soaring to new heights (literally) in the CBD and inner suburbs.
With quirky names like Sixteen Antlers, Up on Constance, Elixir and Fitz + Potts, Brisbane’s bars have never been more enticing. From the street, a passerby might glimpse a string of fairy lights or the odd wall plant, but there’s nothing preparing them for the true beauty of these hotspots. You’ll just have to visit them in person, and here’s five reasons why:
1. Drinking with altitude
DAYUM those views. Soak up the sunset from the to-die-for vantage point Up on Constance offers, and then stay up late with the stars. The cocktail venue is located on the top level of Fortitude Valley’s Tryp Hotel, so promises panoramic views of the Valley streets far, far below. To top it off, order a glass of sparkling rosé (or whatever your choice of poison) and you’ll be feeling on top of the world in no time.
2. Dressing up
With places like Eleven insisting upon a strict dress code (cocktail dresses for the ladies and button-ups for the men), you finally have an excuse to glam up! Grab a few friends and enjoy the night before it’s even started by getting ready together… Those city skylines are definitely Instagram-worthy, and you’ll want to be shining your brightest!
3. Jamming to live music
Choose the right night and you might be lucky enough to catch some groovy tunes from up top. Every Friday and Saturday night Sixteen Antlers house an on-point DJ who, according to their Insta, ‘sets the mood just right.’ If that extra cocktail has you thinking you’d be far more impressive than the DJ himself, head on over to Little Big House for a karaoke sesh. It’s time to polish off those vocals!
4. Meeting new people
A secret stairway in the middle of Grey Street leads up to the Rydges Hotel’s Soleil pool bar, a Brisbane hotspot for mingling with new and interesting folk. Why Soleil in particular, you’re asking? Because of the enormously lavish pool taking up centrepiece! When you’re stuck for a conversation starter, focus on the elephant in the room… or the water on the deck, and you’re good for gold. Apart from that, rooftop bars make meeting strangers a whole lot easier when you’re relaxed with a wine in hand and a gorgeous view spread before you.
5. Pfft… You never need a reason to party!
Whether or not you have an excuse to let your hair out, from ending the work week to a special date night, you can never go wrong with a rooftop bar. They offer up the full package: views, alcohol, good tunes & new pals, so there really is no better way to kick off 2018!
